The Xavier Review Press collection is the second comprehensive volume of essays to be published on Everett in the United States and serves as the companion volume to the first publication, Perspectives on Percival Everett published by University Press of Mississippi in 2013, also co-edited by Drs. Mitchell and Vander.Everett, a prolific African American writer, theorist, and visual artist, is Distinguished Professor of English at the University of Southern California and the author of nearly 20 major publications including novels, poetry collections, and a children s book. Though deeply theoretical and imaginative in his works, Everett has received limited critical attention in the United States although he is widely read and studied in Europe, particularly France. The Xavier Review Press publication, along with the 2013 University Press of Mississippi volume, serve as the first major publications on Everett in the United States and are considered foundational for emerging scholarship.Everett's Untitled #10, graces the book's cover. A special section of his paintings, also provided by Everett, is included, as is an Artist Statement.The book's essays were contributed by Beauty Bragg, Sylvie Bauer, Sha-shonda Porter, S. Isabel Geathers, Timothy Mark Robinson, Amee Carmines, and Keith Mitchell.
